asir was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1975 and at an early age he was influenced by his father Herman McKalpain an acclaimed ABC News cameraman and editor. Basir would eventually become interested in the technical side of film and video production and attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating in 1997 with a BFA in Industrial Design (and a focus on CGI computer animation) he would work for the next 10 years in the automotive industry for GM and FORD as a CGI Designer. Later after some time working as a freelance designer in Hollywood C.A., Basir would move to Japan in 2004 were he would establish; BLACK BOXX CREATIVE GROUP TOKYO focusing on video production, web design, and CGI design animation. He, along with his team, has worked with Japanese independent musicians creating music videos, websites, and other promotional material to further their careers. He’s also done work for an international list of clients from Japan, the U.S., and Canada. One such client is Jeffrey Qwest, former member of Parliament Funkadelic Sterling Silver Starship Band and Mai Kuraki lead man. Basir currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.
1975年、米国ミシガン州デトロイト生まれ。幼少時、米ABC Newsのカメラマン/編集者であった父の影響を受け、映像制作に興味を持つ。The College for Creative Studies, Detroitに通い、1997年、同校を卒業。CGIアニメーションを中心とした、工業デザインのBFAを専攻。大学卒業後は、GMやFORDといった自動車メーカーでCGIデザイナーとして約10年間に渡り活躍。またフリーランスデザイナーとして、カリフォルニア州ハリウッドで過ごす。2004年には日本に拠点を移し、映像制作、WEB制作、写真撮影、CGIアニメーション制作を行う、Black Boxx Creative Group Tokyoを設立した。グループメンバーと共に、日本のインディー・アーティストのための、ミュージック・ビデオやウェブサイト、その他宣材を多数制作する。また、日本や米国、カナダなどで活動する、インターナショナルなアーティストにも制作を行っている。主なクライアントは、Parliament-FunkadelicのSterling Silver Starship Band出身で、倉木麻衣のバンドリーダーであるJeffrey Qwestが挙げられる。現在、東京在住。
